Is A Shacket A Chamois? Help Me, Please

I bought a very oversize denim jacket this fall that I intend to wear for the rest of my days. I love it so much I want it in my burial chamber, so I can bring it to my afterlife when I perish. But, I am also considering being made into a tasteful pendant necklace upon my demise, so hopefully the denim incinerates nicely.

Right now, though, this jacket is functional. It has many pockets. I do not care if it goes out of style, and my commitment to it is based on all the denim jackets that I have loved, lost and loaned before, never to see again. It is also based on the fact that I can wear about five layers under it, and they can be unsightly layers, but the denim covers that all up.

However, I am wondering if I am actually hopelessly devoted to a shacket. I came across this word recently, and was immediately struck by how we simply must, must give items that are already named a new twist, and a rebrand. I am pretty sure a shacket was called a chamois previously. Which was also called a shammy shirt for short, way back in the days of phone cords, and Fotomats.

I, of course, began to research the “Is a shacket a chamois?” query all over the internet for a solid eight minutes and came away with more questions than answers. I don’t think denim is ever a shacket or a…
